FIA GT1 World Championship
Brno
May 21st – 23rd, 2010
Last weekend the traditional Brno circuit (Czech Republic) was the venue for the FIA GT1 World Championship. Current GT3 European Champion Christopher Haase (22, GER) did not get a chance to compete in the third race of the season. His cockpit partner Peter Kox lost control over the Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV (REITER Engineering) in his practice session (Q1), touched the wall at about 93mph (150 km/h) and crashed into the tyre barrier.
The impact was very hard causing the chassis to bend irreparably. The crew tried to repair it but had no chance. “The chassis must be completely rebuilt. Nothing happened to Peter but the car is pretty damaged,” says managing director Hans Reiter about the accident.
The GT1 is taking a six week break. The next race will take place in the south of France at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit.
